Erratic idle and hard shifting?

After changing the starter and the knock sensor out of the blue the car's idle goes up and down from 1,500 RPMs to over 200 RPMs. When I shift it sounds like the transmission is falling out the only thing, I saw was I tore 3 wires out of the throttle body harness connector. 6 pin. Bought a new connector and rewired it but no help. I've been chasing wrong codes since then and changed 02 sensor. Petal sensor. TPS sensor plugs and coil pack?

Hi,

Did you have the intake removed to access the starter? If so, and I believe it's required, my first suspect is you created a vacuum leak at some point, or the manifold is leaking.

By chance, do you have a live data scan tool? If you do, let me know what the short-term fuel trims are once the engine reaches operating temperature.

If you don't, check all vacuum hoses and if the intake is leaking.

Here is a link that explains how it's done:

Let me know. Also, let me know what codes are present.

Take care,

joe

Thanks for your input. The code reader that's been throwing almost different codes every time I use said today po223. That takes me back to the throttle body actuator motor harness connector that I replaced. But I must have put the pins in wrong or didn't splice it right. Anyway, I ordered on eBay a used connector for that car with the correct wire colors as mine. With a pig tail I'll splice that on and not have to mess with the pins or anything. I'll know in about 5 days when it gets here.

Hi,

Thanks for the update. Actually, that is a good idea. As long as it is the same as what you have, it should go together easily for you.

If you have questions or if I can help in any way, let me know. Also, if you can, let me know if this takes care of the problems.

Take care,

Joe
