I changed my car listed above Golf 4 tdi diesel engine, but it would not start. It cranks and will not pick. I also found out that the diesel is not supplying to the engine, such that if I manually add petrol instead of diesel, it cranks longer than usual. I write from Nigeria. Thank you as I await your response.

Firstly never use petrol to try and start a diesel, you can do serious damage to the fuel system and the engine. Check the fuel lift pump is working, remove fuel supply line and turn ignition on, fuel should flow. If low flow or no flow, lift pump may be faulty, you will have to test the power supply at the relay as well just to make sure that there is no problem there as well. The lift pump is in the fuel tank. Also, run a diagnostic scan for any out standing fault codes that may be a problem as well.

Hello CHIMECHEFULAM,

Here is a link to an article from this site that features written step by step instructions and pictures explaining how to do the scan yourself. Also, I have included a link to our YouTube channel with a how to video on code scanning.

This is applicable even if your check engine light is not on.

Most scanners are inexpensive to purchase, you can purchase one online from sites like Amazon.com

Once you have the codes please get back to us with the code number(s) so that we can further assist you. We are always happy to help.

Thank you for visiting 2CarPros.com.

Kindest regards,

Renee

If you have fuel at the lift pump, the high pressure pump may be faulty, a scanner may be able to show desired and actual fuel pressure readings in the fuel rail, this may have to be done at a dealer unfortunately. A code read will also help, if you can get a scan done, post the codes here for further assistance.
