Engine turns over but will not start

You need to check for spark & fuel. Once you know which is missing, we
can suggest what the cause might be.

The drain on the battery is probably a separate issue.

Hi Exovcds, I can check the spark ok but how do I check the fuel?

Hi Exovcds, I just checked for spark by putting a screw driver into the lead and placing next to the top inlets ontop of the motor and saw no spark see photo.

Do you have any code reader to read codes?Or a multi meter to do some testing?

Hi Thomas, my reader will not connect keeps coming up with error can not connect ?

This in itself worries me that I may have a computer failure?

See if any of your fuses are blown if you have a blown fuse and there isnt power to the diagnostics link connector you will be unable to read codes like you have now.Have you tried sraring it with the code reader plugged in?

Hi Michael, sorry about the late reply (I'm on west coast canada time).

Ignition key on, you should see a MIL / Check engine light. If yes, remove one
of the camshaft position sensor harness plugs and check for voltage across
the outer 2 pins.

If yes, then computer is powered-up and you possibly have a crankshaft
position sensor or a camshaft position sensor that is faulty. The early V6
will not run with faulty camshaft position sensors, where as the later ones
do.

We do not have the 2.6 V6 in north america (we got the 2.8 instead, so I'm
not sure if that rule applies.

Sounds like you are in good hands with Saturntech9... I'm heading out for
a family day trip.

Hi Saturntech9 thank you for the assistance I have checked all fuses under the dash (see earlier pictures) and all seem ok! I even removed all relays and checked them all seem to be ok, is there a specific fuse that you may know that links the computer?, Thomas, sorry have been at work so unable to check ! will do today the checks you recomend.

Looks like you have a non usa model I only have repair info on usa models.But lets try this see if there is red wire with black stripe going to the connector you hook the scan tool up too?See if that has battery voltage ?Also if there is brown wire going to the same connector see if there is less then 2 ohms to ground?

Hi Saturntech9 I will check today! the scanner does have power as I do get the individual selections come up only when selected they do not connect? I will take some more pictures to show set up of wiring etc,I do have power to the ignition switch and I do have lights indicators and air-con fan, I don't have spark at plugs no power electric windows or sunroof.

Hi Saturntech9, red wire with black stripe= 12.51 volts brown wire to ground 1.5 ohms there is also a light green wire which has no volts?.

The light green wire to the connector is your data line to the computer. Did you check what thomas suggested?If not please do that now and let me know what you find?

Hi Saturntech9, I pulled the harness connector off and tested both female ends of the harness and turned on the key no voltage on either pin.

so does the check engine light come on when you turn the key to the run position?

I have no dash lights at all ? I only get the mileage to show up if I turn on the lights otherwise nothing is showing on the dash,

Have you checked all the fuses?Also why did you tear everything apart?The radio wires look like a mess.What happened there?I know with a aftermarket radio install on a volkswagon you have to be careful using a scan tool on the car.Not sure about the audis are like that.Hey thomas you can jump in anytime you work on these cars everyday.

Hi, that small black box with all the wires is a security alarm I was checking the fuses to it to make sure it had not mobilized the car, I have also checked the key barrel connector to make sure it was OK.I have checked every fuse and relay I could find but all seem good.

Hi Michael,

The closest wiring info I could find for your vehicle, is for the 2.8L AFC
engine... here is a PDF that includes ECM & Instrument cluster.

You will need to take some time and go through the pages to find all the
fuses that apply to the ECM & Instrument cluster, check those fuses and
replace those that are bad.

If all the fuses are OK, check the ignition switch.

I'm not sure how much different the wiring is on your right hand drive vehicle
and idealy you would want to source the correct one.

Fuse S5 (fuse 5) supplies power to the instrument cluster warning light. The
fuse gets power from the ignition switch.

The ignition switch has big red wires... they should have power all the time.
Ignition 15 circuit is the black wire (sw on page No. 1/10).

I have the same problem where my audi v6i 2.8 dose not give spark to the coil pack.
The audi was at a mechanic for diagnostic check and all my sensors were in working order and fuses were in working order. the problem is a loos wire. can some 1 please assist me with where i need to look and what colour of wireing it will be
