Car was taken to a dealer for routine service and the technician cleaned the throttle body, MAF, MAP and other sensors on the engine. I don’t know about the oxygen sensors. When I took the car in it was running well as it always had. When t got it back i didn’t notice any change in it until the next morning when the engine ran serging at engine speeds below 2000RPM. When the engine is warm the problem seems to disappear. I haven’t touched the engine but t bought some MAF and throttle body spray cleaner. I thought I’d ask if I was on the correct path and ask about the correct method for cleaning these parts.

Hi:

It sounds like they already did that, correct? Tell me. Is the check engine light staying on after the engine starts?

If the light does stay on or flash, we need to scan for diagnostic trouble codes. If you take the vehicle to a nationally recognized parts store, such as AutoZone, they will scan and provide a report to you free of charge.

Let me know about the light. Next, take a look under the hood. The MAF is mounted to the air inlet tube. Check to make sure it is connected. Also, make sure the air inlet (between the throttle body and air filter box) is properly attached and there are no vacuum leaks.

Try this and let me know the results.

Take care,

Joe

First of all, I did an inspection of the engine and found no evidence that the throttle body had been sprayed. The dirt on the air intake hose from the air filter had not been touched. Second, I couldn't find the MAF sensor. After some searching online, I learned that this engine doesn't have a MAF filter. Only the MAP sensor is used. That sensor had been handled and cleaned. As you suggested, I did a leak test by lightly spraying carb cleaner on the parts that I thought were cleaned. The MAP sensor hose clamp was tight but was a little crooked and the engine serged when that area was sprayed, I disconnected the hose and put in on straight. Car runs like a Swiss watch, no serging, hunting or rough idling.
Thanks for the help. I'll be back if I have any other problems with this car.
