The engine will begin to stutter and choke, but it will not die. It lasts about one to five minutes and then it will return to normal. I also hear a knocking noise from under the vehicle on the driver side but that is just a guess. And the fuel gauge will sometimes tell me I am on empty (including this because I think the problems are related) and then the gauge will jump back to where it was before (I have not noticed if the fuel gauge does this at the same time as the stutter).

The fuel gauge may have a wire touching against the frame or the gauge is going bad which is digital and means dash will need to be rebuilt. Scan for codes and check for a vacuum leak as well as see if vacuum line is pinched or soft going to fuel pressure regulator. Which may be on fuel rail. If not there it is part of pump assembly in tank which would be spring operated.

Hi Henry,

Here is a link to an article that features written step by step instructions and pictures explaining how to do the scan yourself, also I have included a link to our YouTube channel with a how to video on code scanning. Most scanners are inexpensive to purchase, you can purchase one online from sites like Amazon.com. Once you have the codes please get back to us so that we can further assist you. We are always happy to help.
