Crank sensor went bad. Installed new crank sensor, now it will not go over 3,000 rpm's and surges. Have codes p031, p0302, p0303, and p0304, p1361, p0135, p1753. Surges at idle? My old tool car. Bought a cheap crank sensor.

Good morning.

Why did you replace the crank sensor?

Did you have this issue prior to the repair?

The 300 codes are misfire codes and could be caused by the crank sensor.

The 1753 is a transmission code.

I parked the car when I got back in to start, cranked no start. Replaced crank sensor car started, but would not go past 3,000 rpm's. (The rest of the story)I have been driving it like that for a couple of years. Recently parked car got back in cranked no start. The engine seemed to have no compression. Number one cylinder 0 psi, (#2 150), #3 0, #4 0. Took head off had it reworked, no bad valves? Put head back on, car started but was misfiring. I checked valve clearance, okay. I checked compression cylinder number one 135, (#2 0, ) #3 125, #4 135? If you are easy on the gas at low-speed it runs like nothing is wrong with it. I have been manually shifting transmission for several years with no problem. Dog shifted it in reverse at about 55 mph, no reverse I can handle that too. If I am idling.

Okay, when the head was off, they either missed something or there is an issue with valve clearance or possibly a bad or broken valve spring.

The 0 compression is what is my biggest concern.

This thing is a mystery. Why would I have no compression on numbers 1, 3, 4? Rework head and no compression on #2 now? You probably think I am some kind of an idiot? 73 years old auto mechanic and precision millwright. Pre-electronic mechanic. Can fix anything before 1994? At one time I thought I could lay my hand on the hood of a car and it would be fixed. Now I can hardly fix one with the hood open. Ford Motor Co. Locally tells people, we do not have anyone that can work on your car. That is the ones I fix.

I am in my late 60's. A lot has changed over the years.

Anyway, go old school with the engine.

Do a wet and dry compression test. Also, use shop air in the cylinders and see where the leak is going.

Crank sensor will not cause no compression.

That is basic engine.
