Engine stall

Car idles great, but with foot on brake and I put it in drive, engine stalls-skips and shuts down. With just barely giving it gas, it cuts off.

Hello,

Does the car stall with a jolt when putting it in drive? If so then you have a torque converter that has locked up and unable to freewheel while in gear.
