I was driving the car and I noticed my speed was decreasing. I tried stepping more on the gas petal and nothing. The oil lamp came on and I tried to get to the side of the road. By that time all the lights were on. I tried to start the car and it wont crank over. All the lights are on and windows work and radio works but car wont start. Tried to turn the engine manually and it wont move. The engine is locked.

Normally a seized engine is due to lack or oil lubrication either due to a failed oil pump or not enough oil changes. When is the last oil change that you had?

Also, we can pull the rocker cover and see if there is sludge in the engine.

Below is the process for removing this. There would be sludge in the engine if there was not enough oil changes done and this would just explain what happened. Either way, if the engine is locked it is due to the crank bearings having metal to metal and it slowed the engine down and finally seized.

Let's run through this and go from there. Thanks

There is oil there because the dipstick says so, so maybe there is a blockage somewhere or maybe the oil pump. But if that is the case do I need a new engine? Because I just put an engine in there like 4 months ago. I'm afraid that maybe something happened to the pistons.

When you say it is a new engine, does that mean it is a brand new engine or new to you engine? Meaning it was a used engine?

Yes, I would drain the oil or drop the pan and look for metal. This will tell us for sure what we need to do. Thanks

No, it was not a new engine just a lower mileage used engine. I think there is shavings of metal in the oil. I could see a little shimmering on the dipstick. But don't know why the engine would seize.

Okay. If you are seeing metal on the dip stick then I am sure you will find more in the pan.

So what more then likely happened is the previous owner of the vehicle did not take care of the engine and do enough oil changes and the bearings suffered lack of lubrication. Once this happens they go metal to metal and will start putting metal in the pan. Then that clogs the pick up and the issue just gets worse and worse until the engine locks up.

If you only had it for 4 months then the damage was most likely already done before you even put it in the vehicle and it took that amount of time to fail.

I would drain the oil and put it through a coffee filter just to confirm this.

I understand. I am just suggesting we confirm the amount of metal in the engine. If we confirm that then it will need to be replaced or at least taken apart and all components inspected to make sure the metal did not damage it. However, if there is substantial metal then it is usually easier to replace the engine and any engine oil coolers that do not come on the new engine. Sorry for the bad news.
