Misfires when first accelerating

When I first take off it's got a really bad miss but as soon as I build up RPM's it does okay and my tachometer stops working between 3,000 and 4,000 RPM's. But as long as I got RPM's built up tachometer works and no miss.

Welcome to 2CarPros.

Many different things can cause a misfire. When the engine's RPM are high, the miss just isn't as noticeable.

Here is what I suggest. First you need to determine which cylinder has the misfire. To do that, you need to have the engine computer scanned for diagnostic trouble codes. Here is a quick video showing how it is done:

I realize most people don't own a scanner, but most parts stores will do it for free or lend or rent a scanner to you.

I could provide many different possible causes, but it would become very confusing and frustrating for you to do all the tests. By providing the trouble code, I should know exactly which cylinder we need to focus on first and what to check for.

If you would rather me provide a list, let me know. Otherwise, I will watch for your reply.

Take care,
Joe
