Today a " check engine" light appeared on my dashboard.

Good morning.

That is indicating a fault in the electronic engine control system. There is a fault code stored in the system. That code needs to be read, diagnostics performed and repairs made to get the light to go off.

You can go to a parts store and have them read the code for free. Then let us know the code so we can further help you.

Thank you Roy, I think this additional information might make it easier for you to asses
my problem. Last June, Canadian Tire changed my timing chain and when I drove
for home I noticed the car jerk whenever I accelerated. I thought that will be gone
in no time, but it was still there although not too often and now just two days ago
the Check Engine Light appeared.

Thank you Roy for your initial response. Here is additional information you might need to know to pin-point better my problem. Last June this year, my timing chain was replaced and when I drove the car for home I noticed the car jerked whenever I accelerate. On Sept. 23 the"Check Engine" light appeared. I hope that helped.
