Hi, I’ve been having this issue with my car and can’t seem to find the problem. At times it drives fine with no issues but then most of the time it has the “Reduced engine power” sign on the display and it starts puttering as if it’s not running on all cylinders. Service Stabil Trak light appears when This happens as well, it drains the battery completely. I bought a brand-new battery and warmed up the ECU and it started up okay and ran fine for a couple days but then one morning it started with all the signs on the display again and puttering so I shut it off. The next day the battery was completely drained again. In the picture is what I got when I took it to AutoZone and used the code reader.

Hi,

The code you have is related to voltage. There are 2 ignition voltage circuits supplied to the engine control module (ECM). One is supplied by the engine control ignition relay and the other is supplied by the ignition run relay.

If the voltage varies beyond a specific range, this code can be set. So, since we have a battery that keeps draining, I have to ask if the alternator was tested. If the battery is slowly drained by driving, it can throw this off.

If you haven't, I need you to check the voltage. Here is a link that explains how to test an alternator. All you need is a voltmeter or multimeter.

Let me know what you find.

Hi,

Thanks for the info. If that is the case, then we need to start diagnosing the issue. It could be a few things including a relay, wiring, or even a connection.

If you take a look below, I attached the information for the code you have. Take a look through them and let me know if you are comfortable performing them.

Also, let me know if you need additional information or have questions.

Take care,

Joe

See pics below. Note: There are other codes mentioned in the diagnostics. Only focus on the ones that relate to the issue.

I definitely think it has to do with some type of wiring due to it shorting out the battery and also after checking the “check engine” code it sent back the ignition circuit.

Hi,

I agree. By chance, did you take a look through the diagnostics I attached above? If so, are you comfortable performing them?

Let me know.
