The vehicle listed above is a Sport model, very random, always when car is moving, suddenly car dips forward for a second, engine goes into some sort of limp mode, still on but barely reacts to gas pedal, tachometer zeroes out instantly but other dash readings normal, brakes, steering, A/C, etc., all normal, but No Engine light not any other warning lights or messages, after several of these over weeks' time, I found that I could park, turn off, wait ten seconds, start back up, it cranks and runs totally normal as if nothing happen and tachometer is back on. It'll run good various times, 3-4 days or a week, 2-3 weeks, once even went a month, engine scans show nothing since I can't get to the shop while it's going on. And, more mystery, occasionally one of these episodes it only does the little lurch but goes instantly back to all normal even the tachometer. Has been between speeds of about 25-50mph. Please hurry with ideas.... I'm running out of hair to pull out.

Hi,

At least you still have hair to pull out. LOL As far as the issue is concerned, the idea that check tachometer drops, it sounds like the crankshaft position sensor may be failing. Do me a favor. Take a look through this link. It explains the most common symptoms related to a failing sensor. Usually, they are affected by heat and require a period of time to cool before working again, but that isn't always the case. Additionally, they can fail and not set a diagnostic trouble code.

Take a look through that and let me know your thoughts.

Take care and Happy 4th!!!

Hello and thanks for your reply, and I read the link. There's enough similarity of symptoms to think this is a good possibility, so I've spoken with my mechanic, and we're scheduled to go ahead with this. My reply here was very delayed due to a cellphone issue, but anyways thank you, I'll keep in touch. Wornlugnut

Hi once again, finally; incredibly on July 13, I was driving around, my car did its episode thing but this time the engine light came on and stayed on, I drove straight to my mechanic, he hooked up the scanner and it clearly indicated the crankshaft position sensor codes and all. This was the 1st time since the end of January when this all began, that the engine light ever came on. Anyway, it was replaced on July 23 and so far to this day no more episodes! Thanks, a heap for your input! Keep it moving!

Hi,

Thanks for the update. I had a feeling that was the problem, but anything is possible.

Regardless, I'm glad it's fixed. Feel free to come back anytime in the future.

Take care,
