Well it is all going to depend on how high the temperature got. If you have a gauge, and the gauge got to the red mark, then there could be some real damage there. Otherwise, you are probably still okay. If anything is damaged, the cylinder head gasket would be blown. This is the gasket that goes between the top half of the engine and the bottom half, and is supremely important in the operation of your engine. An easy way to check your head gasket is simply to look at the oil. Pull your dipstick and look for muddy/cruddy looking gunk. Then take your oil cap off and see if there is milky looking crud on the bottom of it. If either is there, then you have coolant getting mixed with the engine oil, caused by a blown cylinder head gasket.

If you check for a blown head gasket, and find that it is not blown, then you are in luck. You just need to diagnose a cooling system leak, which is as simple as hooking up a bicycle pump type of tool and pumping it up, and then searching for a leak. Here is our more specific guide on that:
