engine not heating up freeze plugs

i have a95 mazda protege and when o bought it needed water pump i replaced that now heat not working so i put in a thermostat and flushed it driving the other it over heated now is leaking around where the water pump is there a freeze plug near or Around the pump and why is the heat still not working

No freeze plug near water pump. Recheck the water pump installation and ensure the mating surface on block is cleared of old gasket.

When coolant is insufficient in system, the heater would not work correctly. Flush the heater core and ensure it is not clogged.
