Engine needs to be thoroughly heated before running smoothly

The engine starts fine, but shuts off when you shift to reverse or drive. It needs at least thirty minutes idling before it runs properly.

This sounds like it could be a vacuum leak or the engine coolant sensor has gone bad here are two guides to help walk you through the repairs.
