Engine light/misfire?

Firstly, when I jump the 2 pins in the diagnostic connector, the check engine light just flashes without stopping. It does not spit out any codes. Is this normal as nothing is wrong? Or should a specific code tell me everything is okay like on Nissans?

When you jump the DLC, the check engine light should flash code numbers. Take a look through this link and let me know if this is what you are doing:
