Hi,

I am having a problem where during acceleration and normal driving condition, the engine tend to judder/shake when in the range of 1,500 to 2,000 rpm's. Till now changed MAF sensor, fuel filter (full car service), cleaned EGR. Any idea what could be the reason?

Thanks for helping out.

Regards,
Justin

Good morning,

Have you done the basics with checking? when was the last time the plugs were changed?

There are many reasons for this. I would start by checking to see if any codes are set for misfire. This would tell us if it is engine related:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/engine-misfires-or-runs-rough

I would also check to see if the compression is good in all cylinders to be sure it is not an internal engine issue.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-test-engine-compression

there are times when the torque converter clutches slip and will cause a shutter in the drive-train. One way to tell is to go to a parts store and get an additive called torque converter shutter. Add it to the fluid and drive it. It takes about 20 miles to take effect. If it stops it, the clutches are bad in the torque converter. If it does not stop it, then it is not the transmission.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. Answering your suggestions:

- Plugs were tested and found working fine. (Remember no hesitation noticed when cold and even no problems during startup when cold).

- Vehicle was checked for error codes but none was registered. Even the check engine light is not lit up.

- Compression was also checked and found good on all cylinders.

- Torque converters are for automatic transmissions right? Mine is manual.

Justin

How did they test the plugs? Was it with a scope? That is the only way to test plugs accurately.

What was the compression?

Something was missed or it would not be doing this issue.

Hi Roy,

Thanks for the feedback.
- Plugs were tested using resistance (ohm) meter.
- Compression ratio had an average of 340PSI. I remember almost all cylinders were of equal value.

Justin

A resistance check is not a test for spark plugs.

340? Is this a diesel or gas engine?

Hi,

It is a Toyota Auris Diesel 2.0L D4D engine with manual transmission.

Okay, sorry, I thought it was a gas engine.

The 340 is good for the engine.

You may have dirt in the injectors which is causing the misfire.

I would go to a parts store and get a product called diesel 911. Add the whole bottle when the fuel is below 1/4 tank. That will get the maximum results from the injector cleaning.

No problem :).

But if injectors are dirty wouldn't it effect also idle and and higher rpm?

2 Diesel system cleaner bottle were already put in the fuel tank. One bottle at every full fuel tank. No difference noticed.

Most of the additives have no effect. The only that has worked for me is the diesel 911.

It depends on the spray pattern of the injector at that RPM.
