Engine is cutting

I do not know what is happening with my car.The engine cut sometimes and makes the car to loose power. What might be wrong?

Is the check engine light on?
Does it shut off completely or just loses power and comes right back?
Do you notice any pattern to the power loss?
Such as, it happens only after turning left or it happens after you hit a bump, or it only happens with under a half tank of fuel, anything like that?
