I think I have a fuel problem, but i'm not sure what it is.

the car starts okay, idles okay (a little uneven, but the car is not in the best shape, so it's understandable), but when it's time to move, it doesn't get enough power to actually move the car, even if I give it a lot of gas. It'll rev and then stall. If the car is tilted down a slope, it'll get moving and then catch, but if it's flat or upslope, it won't go at all. Once it gets going, it's mostly okay. Any ideas?

PS, I recently switched out the fuel filter. It didn't seem to help.

Hi,

The first thing I need to ask is if the check engine light is staying on or flashing when the engine is running? If it is, have the computer scanned for diagnostic trouble codes. Here is a quick video that shows how it's done:

I realize most people don't own a scanner, but most parts stores will do it free of charge (if the vehicle is safe to drive to one).

If that isn't staying on, it certainly could be related to fuel pressure. It would be a good idea to test it. Here is a link that shows in general how it's done:

One other thing. If possible, make sure there are no coolant leaks from around the cylinder head, specifically in the corners.

I attached the manufacturer's specs for fuel pressure in the attachment below.

Let me know what you find. Also, let me know if there are any strange sounds, odors, smoke from the exhaust, or anything you can think of that could help me with the diagnostics.

Take care,

Joe
