Engine hood not opening properly

Does it stick at the corner closest to the windshield? If so then the hinge could be rusty or seized. Place a rag beneath the hinge to catch excess, then spray the pivots with a good penetrating oil. Place a cushion or folded blanket on top of the hood latch so you can move the hood open and closed quickly. Work it back and forth. When the hinge starts to free up, squirt some engine oil into the pivots. When you are done, use the rag to wipe down the hinge area. Lubricate the other hinge while you are at it. And the front hood latch mechanism.

As they age they start to bind. Many people have actually bent their hoods on the longer nose vehicles because they bind in the up position.

However, you may need to try and access the hinges from under the vehicle in order to lubricate them. This vehicle has large fenders and the hinges are not easily accessible with the hood down.

Once you do spray them, he is correct that you need to start working the hood as much as it will move so that the lubricant can start to work into the hinge.
