Took car in to get brakes checked, oil change and to check a rattle I heard in the engine. They took it around the corner for a test drive and they said the engine froze up on them. I took it to Hyundai to doublecheck they also said the engine was froze up and apparently same engine and some other cars we’re under a recall but the Tucson was it. What can I do?

Unfortunately there are not many options if the engine locked up. More then likely the rattle that you were hearing was the root cause. I suspect that noise was either an engine knock or rattle that was due to lack of oil.

A lot of times when you hear a noise in the engine the damage is already done so if the engine is locked up at this point the only thing we need to confirm is that it is mechanically locked up and not just hydrolocked. You do that by draining the oil and looking for metal. If there is any metal in the engine, then it needs to be replaced or rebuilt.
