Engine coolant over temperature alert

Last night I had to have my car towed to the dealership because the "engine coolant over temperature" alert populated. Then immediately a warning popped up about "High Engine Temperature", and the system was overriding to slow the car down.

A little back story. I got a recall from Ford about the "coolant level sensor system installation " from March 2017, so I took my vehicle in, and they inspected it for three days. When I got it back I was told nothing was wrong with the car and they updated it. Fast forward to today (2018), I find out from the same dealership that they never installed the coolant level sensor, and that if there is something wrong with my car then I will need to pay out of pocket.

Can they do that? They were dishonest and did not update my car based on the recall, which I personally feel led to the coolant level not notifying me that I should refill it. Which could lead to other issues.

What do you think?

Hello, I am Danny
Let me ask you this. Did you receive a notice of the recall installed to your vehicle being installed? I do not think they did the work. You will have a permanent tag installed under hood saying they did the work including the updated number. For us Auto Technicians as a reference.
I do not think they did anything. Recalls from a car Manufacturer are covered for free! Hope this helps and feel free to ask me any questions. Thanks for using 2CarPros.
