engine coils

Can you tell us little more details of the issue you are having?
Are you having misfiring issue? Does the engine run rough?
If the ignition coil(s) is/are bad you can simply replace them.
Please let me know what you got.

The car started shaking, rough idle, sputtering. it was bought from a private owner, it ran good the first few days. had a tune up, a few days ago, and this morning all of the weird idling started. took back to Jiffy Lube, to find out the coils had silicone on them. my question is, if I change the coils and spark plugs will that be resolved, or does the car need a new engine?

Is your check engine light illuminated? Typically when engine runs rough it will turn on that light.
If so you will need to get it scanned and get the code(s), which can help with the diagnostics.

It is unlikely you will need a new engine.
The best course of action would be to pinpoint the reason for the rough idle and fix it.

You said you had tune up done few days ago. Do you know what all that was changed?

Yes, the engine light is on. the spark plugs, wires and oil change. it didn't have those problems until this morning.

Since this started all of a sudden it is possible for a component to come loose if it was not secured properly. The code from the engine light can help determine which component is triggering the issue. Now it could be the coil(s), but you don't want to replace a part without being sure. As it can be a different reason you have this issue.

Thank you for that information... i do think that at this point changing the coils and finding out whatever else is going on is the best route. it is my daughter's car, and she has 2 young children that safety is the best policy...
