will a 2005 cadillac sts 4.6 engine and trans work in a 2005 cadillac cts?

Not without changing a lot of other pieces as well. The Northstar uses a lot of different items than the 3.6 you currently have and as the CTS never got the Northstar in it you would need to make some custom pieces as well.
