Engine makes light tapping noise right upper side on initial startup then goes away pretty quick. Sounds like a valve lifter but this engine has no lifters right?

Good morning.

You have tappets which are a kind of lifter. They are oil operated. They work with oil pressure.

It is common for these to get dirt inside and not pump up.

I would use some sea foam in the oil and run it for about an hour and then change the oil and filter. If the noise does not go away, you will need to replace them.
