Engine light just came

Engine light just came on. I do not know why? Sitting at drive in started car up an it was on opened hood in front of engine there is a silver metal thing attached to engine seemed hot an my oil was super low.

The light can be activated through a myriad of problems. The way to proceed is to have it scanned and see what code(s) are stored, then post them here and we can continue. Many parts stores will scan the car for free, they will also suggest that you need to replace part XXXX to repair it. Sometimes that works, most of the time the code just points out what the computer thinks is the problem.
It is sort of like taking your temperature. It may tell you that you are running a temperature but it does not tell you what is causing it.

Hopefully you filled the oil level up again, that may be why it is/was on have it scanned for codes auto parts does for free.
