Rattling noise when excellerating

My car makes a rattling noise when I accelerate, indicative of it overheating, but it does not overheat. What does that mean?

And are you sure the temperature sending unit is working properly?

Just to add to this one before are you sure your catalytic converter did not break loose and is rattling?

Or the heat shield on the catalytic converter.
