What modern engine will be compatible with my vehicle? If I have to replace the complete motor?

With the controls and electronics in a modern engine you are limited to the same engine design the vehicle came with. The only engines that look to be compatible are the EJ series that you have up to the 2007 model year. Later engines are much different and will not interchange.
