code number 32, EGR failure or circuit?

You are headed in the right direction; I would replace the coolant sensor, and I would remove the EGR valve and use a coat hanger and carb spray to clean out the EGR passages which get clogged causing the problem you are having now.

Code 32 refers to an issue with the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation)

There are two coolant temperature sensors, one for the computer and the other for the gauge FYI. Check out the images (below). Please upload pictures or videos in your response of any problems so we can see what to help you with.

Hello this is Gentleman Glen, and I'd like to thank you for showing me the correct engine temperature sensor and its location. I did change it because I was hoping it was the problem I'm having with the code 32 on my blazer. I also found the insulation on the wires had been pulled back some, so I covered the wires while I was there. Unfortunately, this still hasn't resolved that problem. I have replaced the EGR and cleaned the passages like you described and even put a gasket with a screen just in case. I'm still getting a 32 code after about 4 miles driving it. The service engine soon light comes on and stays on until I turn it off, then it goes off until I've put another 4 miles on it. I'm not sure what to try next because the manuals I have say take it to a dealer to get the erg checked and don't show specs for testing it myself. I do appreciate how quickly you responded to my problem before, I thought that was going to take care of it. If it were a Harley-Davidson, I could have fixed it by now, I'm pretty good at doing things with them. I have been a Master Mechanic since 1978. I still work in the older ones. Anyway, thanks for your help.

Is the EGR getting vacuum to open? You may need to "tee" in a vacuum gauge, and have it run into the passenger compartment and then take it for a drive to see if the valve is getting a signal to open. If so, exhaust carbon could have clogged up the EGR passages Further down inside the manifold or cylinder head exhaust ports.

It has an electric EGR. No vacuum.

My bad sorry, I would remove the EGR and start the engine for a second to see if exhaust to force from the EGR feed port. If these ports are clogged, you will get the code.

I took the EGR off and started the engine, it ran at a high rpm until I stuck my finger in the upper hole to see if that was the intake manifold port and it was. The rpm came back to normal, and I could feel the exhaust from the other port, nothing was coming out except the exhaust, no carbon, so I put it back together to test drive it and there was no difference. It seems to idle smoothly. No vacuum leaks at the gasket, runs pretty good, but again the code 32 came up after a few miles. This makes no sense to me, everything I've read about a bad EGR I would expect at least a rough idle . Do you know what the voltage should be at the yellow wire to the temp sending unit . I haven't checked that, but I think I read 5vdc when it's up to temperature. If that sounds right let me know. I'd appreciate it. Thanks. Glen

If I put a vacuum EGR on it could that help, I'm not sure if the check engine light would come on with a vacuum EGR. But if the emissions were good maybe that would be enough. What do you think? I'm in California and there a lot of extra emission rules to go by here.

Good morning. I thought I'd let you know I'm going to replace the thermostat because I've noticed the temperature gauge isn't showing the temperature where it usually goes to. It still gets warm but not like it used to. I'll let you know if it helps. Thanks for your help. Later. Glen

If the thermostat is stuck open this can cause the EGR not to operate. But when you say exhaust is coming out of the EGR port it should be loud and there should be a good supply of exhaust gasses, not just a little bit.

Hello Ken. I took the thermostat out and it was stuck open. I replaced it and drove it and so far there is no check engine light coming on. I have only put enough miles on it to have set the light on before. I don't want to get to happy yet but I'll keep you posted as I put more miles on it. Good morning, Ken. Well, I've driven the Blazer around for more than enough miles to trip the service engine soon light and it looks like we figured out its problems, no more light. I believe you would want to know if it's fixed, I know I would if in your position. My wife Deborah Curry recommended getting your help, and I'm glad you were there to give advice and steer me in the right direction.
