I went to take off in my truck and it made a loud hard thunk sound. Sounded like it was coming from the drivers side rear. It did it going forward and backwards. I pulled the wheel off, pulled the rotor, saw that there were a little bit of grooves now in the rotor. The shoes look okay, plenty of pad. Just replaced all of this less than a year ago. But I noticed the e brakes shoes, one side was ground down to almost nothing! I never use my e brake. Lots of black "dust" on everything.

Good evening,

Even though you do not use it, they still have a drag on to the inside of the rotor. It sounds like the e brake cable is frozen in the on position even though you have not used it.

I would replace the shoes and while you have them off, pull on the cables and see if they move freely and retract.
