electrical short somewhere in dash

open the glove box or passenger door or turn on dome lights with dash dimmer switch radio turns off and engine acts like it has a dead battery. doesn't happen with the driver door took out the fuse for dome lights and timer relay for indoor lights but didn't change anything. any troubleshooting tips?

Do you have the original radio and is it a cd / cassette combo? I'd start by having the charging system professionally load-tested. In particular I would like to know the full load output current and "ripple" voltage. Some auto parts stores will do simple charging voltage tests for free but that is not sufficient for this problem.
