Hello,

The Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (ECT) has nothing to do with whether your vehicle's engine is overheating or not. It is probably overheating all the time, and you can just see the gauge when it's plugged in. Your vehicle's engine is probably overheating because the thermostat is stuck closed or the water pump is failing. Let's start with the thermostat as it is the easiest to get to and the least expensive to replace. In the diagrams down below I have included the specs for the thermostat in your vehicle and the removal and installation instructions for it as well. Please go through these guides and get back to us with what you are able to find out.

Thanks,
Alex
