My car might need a new one; still diagnosing. Would want to get a used one if possible.

Are ECM's compatible with manual and automatic transmission versions of the same model? Auto Vs. Manual differences

Hello, I'm Danny.

To answer your question No, you can only use the ECM programmed for your manual transmission car. You have to have all the options for your car reprogrammed/reflashed to your particular car. It's best to provide your VIN (vehicle identification number) when having that kind of work done. The last time I had an ECM reflashed here in the states (Florida,USA) it cost $200.00. If you are able to get the factory ECM number you can sometimes locate one at a wrecking/dismantling yard. Hope this helps and let me know if you have any further questions about this. Thanks for using 2CarPros.

Thanks Danny.

Could I get a used ECM from an auto transmission Elantra, and have that reprogrammed for my manual transmission Elantra?

Will the factory ECM number be labelled on the unit itself?

Hello again.

I would suggest sticking with a manual transmission ECM to use as a replacement. Yes, The ECM will have a sticker on it with the part/model number. You might want to search the internet to find a company near you that can re-flash them. I've attached pictures below of where it is located on your car and also the Hyundai factory part numbers for the options for your cars ECM. Hope this helps and thanks again for using 2CarPros.
