I have to replace the engine computer. I bought a used one with the same part number. My mechanic asked me if my key to the car has a chip or not, (I have no idea). He's saying if it doesn't have a chip in the key, he can just remove the old one a just plug the new one in. Car listed above is an Lxi. Does that car have a chip key? Is it true what the mechanic is saying about the chip?

Hello,

The ECM/PCM will needs to be programmed to your vehicle.
Without the reprogramming or relearning process the vehicle will not recognize the new part.

The programing of this will require a special scan tool.

I attached the programming procedure for your reference.

Please let me know of any questions.
Thank you.
