In looking to order ECM online, it states it must be locally programmed for the vehicle. I thought they were more or less just "plug and play". Do they have to be programmed? At a dealer?

they have to be programmed for security or vehicle won't start or run. they used to be plug and play with OBD1 but with OBD2 they are not. they can be found locally for around $400-500 possibly installed

The security system is self learning but they do have to be programmed to the VIN and operating system.
