Here is how you drop the fuel tank. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.
Removal and Installation
WARNING:
Do not smoke, carry lighted tobacco or an open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related components. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited, possibly resulting in personal injury.
Do not carry personal electronic devices such as cell phones, pagers or audio equipment of any type when working on or near any fuel-related components. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions can result in personal injury.
Fuel supply tubes on all vehicles equipped with fuel injected engines will remain pressurized for long periods of time after engine shutdown. Fuel system pressure must be released prior to fuel system service to prevent possible personal injury or a fire hazard.
This procedure involves fuel handling. Be prepared for fuel spillage at all times and always observe fuel handling precautions. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
All vehicles
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. Release the fuel system pressure.
3. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
4. Drain the fuel tank.
5. If equipped, remove the rear support braces.
Vehicles with 4.0L SOHC
6. Remove the exhaust intermediate pipe.
Vehicles with 4.6L (3V)
7. Remove the exhaust intermediate pipes.
All vehicles
8. Remove the driveshaft.
9. Disconnect the RH fuel tank electrical harness.
10. Disconnect the LH fuel tank electrical harness.
11. Disconnect the fuel vapor tube quick connect coupling on the RH rear of the fuel tank.
12. Release the clamp and remove the fuel filler pipe hose from the fuel tank.
To install, tighten clamp to 3 Nm (27 lb-in).
13. Position a suitable lifting device under the fuel tank.
14. Remove the 2 fuel tank strap retaining bolts.
To install, tighten to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft).
15. Position the emergency brake cables aside.
16. Remove the 2 fuel tank strap retainer pins and straps.
17. Complete the lowering and removal of the fuel tank.
18. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
