Hello, well this being happen when I went to pick up my kid to school there is a down hill and half way down the car engine just quit running. The brake and steering wheel got hard, but I mean hard to brake and steer! We got scared this has been happening past month. What I discover was that if I took the number two fuse off and put it back on the car starts again run for anywhere from five to twenty minutes and then shuts off again. The instrument cluster always on when I take the fuse off and back on I hear fuel pump activating and click sound turn the key to start and engine starts. When the engine shuts off I can hear the fuel pump working. I cannot drive it like this any more, but I need to take my kid to school.

Thank you for your help.

Has anyone done any work to the vehicle recently? If no then have the throttle body plate cleaned out and replace the idle air control valve. If you still have an issue then you will need to have a shop with a compatible scan tool adjust the idle. Hope information helps.

It sounds like you have a crankshaft sensor going out. When this sensor fails it may or may not trigger a check engine light. Here is a guide to show you what you are in for when changing the sensor along with some diagrams on what it will be like on your car. (below)

Hey Ken,

My 1998 Acura CL 3.0 V6 shuts off while driving and is hard to restart. The front end makes a clicking noise often when I turn. The shop said the right front axle needs replacement. The check engine light is off. I read your crankshaft advisory. I was also wondering if the axle replacement might solve the engine shut off while driving then hard to start problem and if I would need to replace the camshaft sensor, too?

What would you advise for this car with 159,000 miles with these symptoms?

Thanks for your pro advise.

Mark

Hi Mark,

These two issues are not related. I would start with the crankshaft sensor because the computer cannot see when the sensor is bad in most cases. Next start a new question for the ticking axle issue.
