I keep getting fault code 120408 with attached codes: 801c11
00429A
0028b6
801222
118002
002EF7
I'm no mechanic here at all by any means, all I know is from the extensive reading and research I've done on my own. The wastegate was stuck closed. I was able to get it freed up. The charge pipe was loose, I was able to get it back sealed and on snug. I've replaced MAP sensor, boost pressure sensor, HPFP, and the vacuum line from the top of the engine to the breather box. The car drove so much better. But these codes won't clear, and the attached codes are really throwing me off. I'm also getting the code U1164, I have repeatedly checked the connections to the ECU and tried clearing that code as well, with no success. Thank you in advance for your help and your patience with me and please forgive my terminology ignorance here. :)

Hi,

The codes you provided are not listed in my manual. By chance, do you have the P-code equivalent to the ones you provided?

I can tell you this from experience. The plastic charge air pipes are known to crack causing issues. Inspect it closely to see if there are any issues found.

Let me know.

Joe

Yes, the charge pipe has been checked and secured. I have a picture of the p codes.
How far off would you say I was if I thought it was maybe the vacuum pump? Sometimes there is a loud squeal that sounds like a belt squealing, it's been confirmed that it's not a belt, Also. There are times it will die when I push the brake and crank back up when brake is released (not all the time though) (auto stop/start is off), ABS light is on dash also. I'm not sure maybe a shot in the dark there.

Hi,

Thanks for the updated codes. Interestingly, some I show and others not. After going through them and thinking you were hearing a noise, the one that caught my interest was the P10F2. That isn't a generic communication code as mentioned on the printout. It indicated the charge air pressure is too high in relationship to the barometric pressure.

Have you checked the wastegate? Its purpose is to divert excessive exhaust gases away from the turbo. It controls the speed of the turbine preventing it from spinning too fast. I'm questioning if that is what you hear.

The P12A9 indicated a pressure difference also and is related to the after-run. The after-run determines whether the ambient pressure, intake-manifold pressure, and charging pressure sensors are all registering a single pressure reading.

The remaining codes are not found in my manual for this year, make, and model.

Pic 1 below shows the sensor. Also, I came across a technical service bulletin that you may find interesting and may actually be the issue. Read through pics 2 and 3.

Let me know your thoughts.

Take care,

Joe

I've had the wastegate off, it was stuck closed. Got it freed up and put back on. I've replaced the vacuum line on top of the engine, but I can't seem to find it anymore. Would you happen to have a diagram of the vacuum hoses? My engine is the N26 not sure if that matters too much or not.

Hi,

You are one of the few that know the engine. LOL Yes, it helps.

I attached everything I have related to the vacuum system. Take a look through them and hopefully, they will help.

Take care and let me know if you have questions.

Joe

Sorry for the late reply. I just wanted to thank you for your help. I still have a few little minor issues, but my main concern was getting it out of limp mode, and I was able to do that. I loosened the wastegate arm and PB Blasted the heck out of it and put it back on and tightened the nut back up and it was out of limp mode. Still tries to stall out at idle but runs so good. Thank you again for all your help.

Hi,

You are very welcome and thank you for the update. I'm glad to know it's running better. As far as the idle is concerned, check for any vacuum leaks.

Take care and please feel free to come back anytime in the future if you have questions.
