I lifted the front end of the car listed above and placed it on ‘drive’. I realized that the driver side driveshaft does not spin but the passenger side does. It tries to spin but hardly moves and shakes a bit. It spins when you accelerate but the driveshaft shakes and makes noises. What is the exact problem? If I replace the driveshaft will it fix the problem? Thank you.

Good afternoon,

When the wheels are off the ground only one side will turn. That is normal.

Are you having an issue while driving?

I attached the procedures for you for replacement.

REMOVAL

NOTICE:
The hub could be damaged if it is subjected to the vehicle weight, such as when moving the vehicle with the drive shaft removed.
Therefore, if it is absolutely necessary to place the vehicle weight on the hub bearing, first support it with the Special Service Tool (SST) 09608-16042 (09608 02021, 09608-00204) or equivalent.
After disconnecting the drive shaft from the axle hub, work carefully so as not to damage the sensor rotor serration on the drive shaft if ABS equipped.

1. Remove front wheel.
Torque: 103 Nm (76 ft. lbs.)
2. Remove engine under covers.
3. Drain out gear oil (M/T) or ATF (A/T).
4. w/ ABS:
Remove ABS speed sensor.
Remove the bolt and ABS speed sensor.
Torque: 8.0 Nm (71 inch lbs.)
5. Remove drive shaft lock nut.
a. Remove the cotter pin and lock cap.
b. With applying the brakes, remove the nut.
Torque: 225 Nm (166 ft. lbs.)
6. Disconnect tie rod end from steering knuckle.
7. Disconnect lower ball joint from lower suspension arm.
8. Disconnect drive shaft from axle hub.
Using a plastic hammer, disconnect the drive shaft from the axle hub.

NOTICE: Be careful not to damage the boot, oil seal and speed sensor rotor.

9. Remove drive shaft.
a. LH Drive shaft:
Using a hammer and hub nut wrench, remove the drive shaft from the transaxle.
b. RH Drive shaft:
Using a hub nut wrench, remove the drive shaft from the transaxle.

NOTICE: Be careful not to damage the dust cover and oil seal.

HINT: At the time of installation, please refer to the following items.
Coat the seal lip with MP grease.
Whether or not the drive shaft is making contact with the pinion shaft can be known by the sound or feeling when driving it in.
After installation, check that there is 2-3 mm (0.08-0.12 in.) of play in axial direction.
After installation, check that the drive shaft cannot be pulled out by hand.

10. Remove snap ring.
Using a screwdriver, remove the snap ring from the inboard joint spline.

INSTALLATION

Installation is in the reverse order of removal. See TSB DL001-98, 3-6-98.

After installation, check ABS speed sensor signal and front wheel alignment.

Thank you that is of much help. However, it seems like it is trying to spin but barely moves. The driveshaft sort of shakes and makes noise. When I drive the car sometimes shakes at 65-75 most of the time. Sometimes I get lucky and it is somewhat smooth. I understand it may be an alignment issue but what exactly can cause it? Thank you again.

It is not an alignment issue.

It could be a tire issue if a belt is broken or they are worn out.

The CV joints will do this as well if they are worn and have play, it will vibrate especially on acceleration.
