I seem to have the opposite problem of most who have posted regarding power window problems on the van listed above. All windows work except the driver's side. I ordered a new switch assembly and tried programming it with what info I had available, and it's exactly the same. Any ideas?

Hi,

We need to check if the motor is getting power. The motor itself or connector could be bad.

If you look below, I attached a portion of the wiring schematic for the driver's door. There are two wires that go to it. One is red with a yellow tracer, and one is red with a black tracer.

When you press the button for the window to go down, power goes through the red wire with the yellow tracer to the motor, then out to ground via the red/black wire. When you request the window up, the opposite happens. Basically, the polarity to the motor is switched causing it to run in different directions.

So, I need you to check if that is happening. Disconnect the connector. Check each wire for power. You can use a test light or voltmeter for this. Also, you can use the ground that should be provided via the wiring as I mentioned, or another known good ground.

Let me know what you find.

Take care,

Joe

I'm sure you know, but the problem is the driver's side front window. Sorry, I forgot to specify that.

Hi,

Better to ask than be wrong. LOL Yes, the wiring I attached is for the driver's side front window motor.

Let me know what you find or if you have questions.

Take care,

Joe

The voltmeter (set on 20v) reads only.1-.2 volts on each wire with the key on the #2 position. There is also a clicking noise in the switch at all stops.

Hi,

That is why the window isn't working. There isn't enough power. Now that you have confirmed the power is an issue at the motor, we need to check it at the door switch. Follow the same wires back to the door switch and check there. If there is no power at that point, we need to check if there is a ground issue or other related electrical cause.

If you look below, I provided the diagnostics for the multiplex door control module (main driver's window switches). Take a look through them and let me know if you are comfortable performing them.

Take care,

Joe

Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear. I checked the voltage at the connector to the switch, not at the motor.

Hi,

No problem whatsoever. If we don't have 12v at the switch, the window won't work. Is it possible for you to check the power at the motor as well just as confirmation? Also, did you look at the chart above indicating where the issue could be based on test results?

Let me know.

Hi Joe,
Thanks so much. You've been very helpful. I will check those out. I am going to be out of town for a few weeks and won't be able to work on it. Can I contact you again as soon as I get back?

Hey Joe,

So, I left in the morning and didn't think I'd have time to check the connector at the motor; but I did. It's reading 11.6 v on both the red/yellow and red/black when the switch is activated up and down. Does that pretty much incriminate the motor? Thanks again,
Marvin

Hi Marvin, if it is getting power, the motor is the most likely suspect. Since you are getting power to both, that means the opposite is providing ground as needed. That leaves the motor.

Let me know when you get to it. I'm interested in knowing if the problem is resolved.

I will definitely let you know as soon as I get it switched. Is there any reason to replace both the motor and regulator, or is just the motor sufficient?

I believe you can just replace the motor on this one. If that is correct, yes, just replace it.

Also, I checked through two manuals and neither provides the specific directions for your vehicle. That's why I attached the link for you.

Have a safe trip and I'll see you when you return.

Take care,

Joe

Hey Joe. So, I got it back, got the motor and replaced it, and it works. It goes up slower than the others and makes a little more noise, so I probably got a dud and will have to do it again. It's a Dorman motor. Anyway, that seems to have been the problem, and I sure appreciate all your help.

Hi,

Thank you for the update. I'm glad to know you have resolved the issue. As far as doing it again, you should be fine. Dorman usually provides good replacement parts. I've used thousands of their parts. LOL Actually, I've learned to request them.

Regardless, thanks for letting me know. Also, feel free to come back anytime in the future.

Take care of yourself,

Joe
