The key will turn in the door lock but will not unlock the door

The inside auto door locks work to unlock all doors. My question is, will a remote work to unlock/lock the doors from outside the car in this case? The remote that came with the car is lost but can be replaced if that would work.

If the key will not lock or unlock then it is likely the locking rod has come off so the lock will not work with anything until this is reattached.
