I have a whirring sound coming from somewhere under the front of my car. Gets louder as I accelerate, I think it is near side. Any ideas?

Does it change if you steer right/left IE get louder as the car shifts back and forth?
What happens if you gently hold the brakes on, does the sound change? There are many things that can cause noises from a tire that is failing or a wheel bearing to an issue in the transmission. If you shift into neutral and let off the throttle does the sound change?

Very possible. Especially if you can hear it change as you steer the car and shift the weight on/off the failing bearing.
