Hi,

I recently paid 500quid for a garage to remove and clean the DPF filter. However, another garage sent me a picture (attached) of the DPF bolt which is rusty as hell. They don't think the filter was removed at all. What do you think? Is it possible they removed and cleaned it and kept the same rusty bolt?
Not sure where I stand or how to prove this.

Thanks,

Hello,

Please send another request and attach a clear picture of the rusty bolt.

Hi Boris, hopefully it's attached now. I tried earlier but it didn't work.

Hello,

In the picture you provided it looks as if the nut on the clamp has not been loosened recently.
Are there any DPF related issues with your vehicle?

Cheers, Boris

Hi Boris, yes certainly. It had warning lights come up on the dash and engine power was low. I was told to clean the filter, so I paid a guy €500 to remove and clean the filter in November 2023. Then the engine low warning light came on again 2 / 3 weeks later, so I brought it to the garage I bought it off last week. Their mechanic took that photo. He thought it didn't look like it had been removed recently at all and I have to agree. The trouble is it is very hard to prove. The first mechanic could have removed and not replaced or cleaned the rusty bolt or screw.

Hello,

The DPF could also be cleaned in situ, using chemicals. Although this should have been communicated with you.

I would suggest carrying out a vehicle scan using suitable diagnostic and posting the codes here so that we can evaluate and advise.

How to:

Also, ask the technician working on the vehicle to check the live data for the differential pressure sensor. To be checked with ignition on/engine off, at idle and at 3,000 RPMs.

Please also post these values here.

Cheers, Boris
