The other day I got completely locked out of the van. Managed to get into it with the help of a locksmith and you can now lock/unlock the doors using button on the dashboard. The key does not work in the door though.
It was previously slightly stiff to turn, but now all resistance has gone, and the key will freely spin 180 degrees but does not seem to engage the locks.
What could be the issue?

Hi Greg,

This model vehicle isn't offered in the US, but I will try my best to help.

As far as the issue, the tumbler where you place the key is connected to a linkage rod. That rod bridges between the lock and the latch assembly in the door. Based on what you have described, it sounds like the linkage has come disconnected and is no longer attached at one end or the other.

In this case, I recommend removing the door panel for inspection. When it is removed, there will likely be a sheet of plastic on the door itself used to eliminate air leaks, water leaks, and noise. Carefully detach it from the door so it can be reused.

Also, I attached a pic below so you can see in general what I am referring to. The connected end in the pic is on the lock cylinder. The opposite end of the steel linkage goes to the door latch assembly which isn't shown.

Let me know if that helps, what you find, or if you have other questions.

Take care,

joe
