I have taken a good door closed switch from my 2000 focus and swapped it out with all four doors on the 2002. Interior light comes on. I have checked the trunk, the light is on when opened, off when closed. Even swapped the trunk latch mechanism with my spare. No fix. Removed door panel, no electrics, ( except for speaker wires ), to door latch.

I am a bored IBM retiree and I am fixing up this focus as a project. Lots of fun so far, but this little thing has me awake at night.

Check the gem module and battery saver relay, although I think it is the gem. that may need to be scanned by a professional to fix and also programmed to your car see this link on how to test it.

Hi, did GEM test, door switch no response, light remains on. However, I found the key-switch does not lock in key ( pulls out easily, ) when engine is on. Also seems pushed in a bit until the key is removed in the off position. Could this be the problem? Any way to repair this without changing switch assembly? Your help is much appreciated!

I know this is kind of crazy, but did you check the headlight switch to see if the thumb wheel was stuck on? It could be the headlight switch by pass.

Could it be that one of the switched is not getting fully opened? Like the switch needs a shim, try to work each switch by hand to see if the interior lights go out.
