The original problem was the battery was dead. Recharged the battery and I keep a trickle charger on battery to keep it up. Car starts and runs fine. The door locks do not lock when moving gearshift out of park, and all locks do not lock when turning the key in the driver's door. The trunk(boot) will only open using the key. The alarm system does not arm.

Hello,

It sounds like you had a voltage surge when the new battery was installed and popped a fuse. To be sure here is a guide to help you check the fuse and the location of the fuses below:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-a-car-fuse

Check out the diagrams (below). Please run this test and get back to us.

Thanks Ken, It is possible that I had a surge because I did not remove the battery from the car when charging or disconnect the cables. I wish I had. I have checked every fuse on the car and all are good. I even honked the horns while checking their fuses and they are good. By the way, the 1996 fuse locations are different than the 93-94 models shown in the diagram. It seems that the car is stuck in valet mode. These are items that do not work: all auto door locks, Steering wheel adjustment, outside mirror adjustment, boot open from inside the car or push button on outside, main lock button on center console. There may be something else, too. Thank you for the reply. John

It sounds like the security and locking module has gone out in the trunk, here is the location I would check the electrical connector for corrosion. Check for power at the blue and blue wire. here is the security system locking module wiring diagrams so you can see how it works and a guide to help you test the grounds and power:

Security System Inclination - On left front of luggage compartment.

Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know what happens.

I removed the nuts holding the security module, but I wasn't able to pull it out far enough to check the wiring connections. From what I could see, they are not corroded. I am just about to the end of my testing. One curious thing so far is that the relays in the trunk do not match up with the diagram that I have for this model car.
The security diagram above is the best one that I have seen. Thanks for sharing it with me.

If there are no visible problems I would replace the security module it will need to be programmed to the car.
