The left rear door doesn't open from inside or outside.. I can hear the door engage with the key remote, but the door won't open at all.

It sounds like the door latch linkage has fallen off; you will need to remove the door panel which may require you to remove the rear seat. Once the panel is off then you can inspect the latch and control cables, I found instructions and diagrams for the job to give you an idea of what you are in for when doing the job. For the panel it is the front door it was all they show but the process is similar. Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.
