More than likely this is an internal transmission issue or a fluid issue.
So, let's start with the basics and check the fluid level and condition.

If the fluid is at the proper level, then we need to check the line pressure on the unit because I suspect the pump has failed.
The way this works is the pump in the unit needs to pressurize the fluid in order to engage the gears. So, if you didn't have forward or reverse, then it could be a valve body or solenoid issue but since you have neither, then it is a fluid issue or pressure issue.
So, let's run through checking the fluid level and then the process below is how to test the pressure.
If you don't have a gauge, then more than likely you can rent one from a parts store that has a rental program.
However, it is much more common to just be a fluid issue so if it is low then we are going to have to look for leaks.
