I had a new starter put on appx. Two weeks ago. I noticed upon starting that the RPM's really went high, otherwise there were no problems. Now it does not want to start and when I finally get it going I have to keep my foot on the gas or it will shut down. The mechanic is perplexed. He says the ECM is telling the fuel trim to richen the fuel up? Do you understand this? Does it have anything to do with him putting on the starter?

I don't know how the issues would be connected, unless, on some makes and models, if battery cable is disconnected, it can cause idle issues until the computer relearns. Usually the computer relearns fairly quickly. I don't know at the moment if these issues are connected?

Just to add, maybe mechanic accidently bumped connector for 02 sensor?

Any applicable trouble codes, some of the national brand auto stores will check codes for free. I'd want to see if computer is going into closed loop. I could be way off?

Thank you for the responses. The Jeep is still at the mechanics and he says he is perplexed. I have been given very reliable information on this site before, so I thought I would give it a try. So from what I am gathering, we need to try a new O2 sensor? Thank you again.

No, all I can do from here is list possibilities. If your mechanic is experienced and he can look at your vehicle. I doubt I can give better info than your mechanic.
