When I brake my van jerks a little. What is causing this? I'm planning on getting new brakes tomorrow.

If "pulsates" would describe it better, suspect warped front brake rotors. They can cause a shimmy in the steering wheel too. Egg-shaped rear brake drums will often cause the brake pedal to pulsate up and down.
